6 Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities [FREE DOWNLOAD]

Shannon | No Comments

Colors are a common preschool learning topic.  Some kids come to preschool already knowing the color names, but just as many do not.  Or maybe you’re doing tot school, teaching kindergarten, or Head Start and looking for printables.  No matter where you teach, these preschool color activities are going to make teaching colors fun and EASY!

preschool color activities6 Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities [FREE DOWNLOAD]

As I have mentioned time and again, preschoolers learn best through play.  In fact, I focus more on play and less on academic skills like letter recognition and phonics.  Why?  Read about it here.

That’s not to say that academic skills don’t have a place in the preschool classroom.  Actually, there’s room for a lot in a preschool classroom!  Read this post to find out how your classroom really should be set up for the most learning to happen.

Okay, so colors.  It’s a life skill, really.  And kids that are walking and talking are ready to learn color names and sorting by color.

Here’s some preschool color activities that you can use in your classroom to help make teaching colors easy and fun! Scroll the whole way to the bottom to download your freebie!

Coloring Pages

Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities

These coloring pages are perfect for teachers who love NO PREP (like me!). Now, I love to create resources.  But prep time can be a killer if you have personal things to do too.

There are ten coloring pages in this file.  Each page has one color name and is surrounded by clip art.  So students can color in the letters and clip art, and they’ll get LOTS of practice with each color, one at a time.

The ten colors in this file are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, and white.

These coloring pages also have matching posters.  The posters are the same as the coloring pages above, but already filled in with color.  I made these to hang on my calendar wall and we review them every day!

Color Clip Cards

This activity will have students differentiating between colors.  Each card features a healthy food item (yay for the double content area!) and three colors.  So students have to find the color on the bottom of the card that matches the picture, and clip it with a clothespin.

Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities

There are 27 clip cards and a label for storage.  I simply laminated, cut apart, and store in a pencil bag with some clothespins.  This is one of my centers the first week of preschool.

The ten colors in this file are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, and white.

Muffin Color Puzzles

These muffin puzzles might be my favorite color activity!  A cupcake baking toy I bought for the dramatic play center a few weeks ago inspired me to make these puzzles.  Inspiration can come from anywhere!

Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities

So here’s how this puzzle works.  Each muffin has a top and bottom.  The tops of each of the muffins have a picture with one main color, and the bottom of the muffins have paper in the same color.  And because the splits between the top and bottom are unique to each color set, students can’t fit wrong pieces together.

Again, I just laminated these, cut them apart, and store them in a pencil bag for my first week of school centers.

The colors in this set are orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink.

Crayon Color Puzzles

These crayon color puzzles work exactly like the muffin puzzles above.  For example, the bottom of each puzzle piece shows a colored crayon, and the top shows a picture in one main color.  Your students will match the puzzle pieces together with the crayon that matches each picture!

Fun and Easy Preschool Color Activities

Also, most colors do not fit together with the wrong crayon.  Some templates do repeat, though, so there are a couple exceptions.

Again, just print, laminate (who doesn’t love to laminate?!), and cut apart.  I love that even young learners can assemble these puzzles and match their colors!

There are ten colors in this file: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, brown, black, and white.

Troll Color Puzzles

These troll color puzzles are perfect for young learners, or anyone who loves trolls!  The kids will find the pieces of the same color and assemble them to make a large troll picture.  Once again, laminate, cut apart, and use it in your center rotation while your kids are learning colors.
