Centers are the core of a quality preschool classroom.  You can include sight words in your alphabet center or writing center to introduce sight words to preschoolers.  This will help them learn to differentiate between letters and words.  More advanced students may start to recognize and read the words.  So here’s a super easy way to make a sight word center!

How to Make a Cheap and Easy Sight Word Center

I have my sight words, alphabet center, and writing center all in the same spot since I’m limited on space.  If you have lots of room, though, check out this post about how to set up an epic classroom.

Here’s what I did for this activity for my center.

What I Used

• Magnetic Dry Erase Board
• Letter Magnets with Blue Consonants and Red Vowels
• First 100 Sight Words Flash Cards

Low Prep

This was so easy to prep!  All I did was

1. Print
2. Laminate
3. Cut

Then I added a clip magnet to my white board and showed the kids how to use the center.  They choose a word, clip it up, and find the letters to build the word!  I have found this activity to be great for both young and older preschoolers.

It’s effective because young students learn that words are built from letters.  More advanced students can begin to recognize sight words and learn to read!

We store our cards right inside the box with the letter magnets.

And seriously that’s all there is to it!  I can use the flash cards for a variety of other games, too, of course.  And I’ll use them on my focus board to introduce sight words.

I love that there are red vowels just like the letter magnets.  This simple activity really helps students to start recognizing letters because they have to find the letter magnets by matching the shape of the letters.
