Why Teach Healthy and Unhealthy Foods in Preschool

I am amazed by preschoolers who do not realize that foods like cookies, chips, and candy are not good for their bodies!  But the truth is, they often aren’t learning this at home.

You can read more about why and how to make healthy kids in preschool in my post How to Make Healthy Kids [As a Preschool Teacher].

This worksheet is a great review tool!  Students can cross out the unhealthy foods, and color in the healthy ones.

This worksheet is a FREE sample from my Healthy Foods Pack.

Healthy Foods Sorting Activity

This sorting activity was so easy and so great for team building!  All I had to do was print off these three pages and cut the squares apart.

To prep, I cut out all the images and scattered them on the table.

First, we reviewed what Healthy and Not Healthy mean. Then, they took turns choosing a food picture.  They told the class what was on their square, and if the food was healthy or not. Then they got to glue their picture onto the correct poster.

Since I have some school kids for the summer, I also asked them about the food groups of their healthy foods. We talked about why unhealthy foods aren’t healthy, and that they’re okay for sometimes as long as we don’t eat a lot of them.

My class really enjoyed this activity.  And we got to review a very important concept!  Click the button below to get this activity for yourself!

This printable pack includes: ♥ 6 Worksheets ♥ 1 Sorting Activity (color and B&W) ♥ 7 Food Group Posters Worksheets There are 2 types of worksheets in this pack. 3 worksheets show a variety of foods around the paper. Students are asked to cross out the unhealthy foods and color the healthy foods. The next 3 worksheets are numbered 1-5. Students are asked to look at the pictures on each line and determine the healthy food. Sorting Activity This sorting activity would work great for a center. It would also be easy to use as a craft or bulletin board piece, just add paper plates! You can also use it for homework, an interactive notebook, or a way to encourage working as a group. The activity pages feature 24 pictures of healthy and not healthy foods, as well as labels. Students can cut apart the pictures, sort, and paste them. The pictures come in color or black and white. Food Group Posters I created these posters for my students because I don’t have any healthy food resources that I feel is appropriate for them. My husband and I have been together since we were 14! We are blessed to have found each other so young and seem to have a bond that not many other couples share. He listens to me ramble on about whatever thing I may be passionate about each week, and is always there to lift me up when I'm down.
