The Easiest Way to Keep Your Preschool [or Daycare] Clean
Do you feel overwhelmed trying to keep your daycare or preschool clean and sanitary? Are you keeping up with disinfecting when an illness shows up in your program? Keep reading for my secret to a clean and healthy preschool.
There’s Only 2 Things You Need
That’s right! There’s only 2 products I use to clean my daycare and preschool rooms.
- Dish Soap
- Bleach
Dawn Dish Soap for Messes
I buy the regular blue Dawn dish soap because it is so versatile. And sometimes I even just grab the blue dish soap from Aldi – since that’s the best place for daycare groceries!
So first just pour some dish soap into the bottom of a spray bottle, and fill the rest with water. Then shake to mix. Only use a little soap because you’ll have bubbles and soapy slime all over if you get too much. So start with a little, and add more if you think you need it.
Label this bottle and use it for cleaning:
- Tables
- Chairs
- Changing Tables
- Sinks
- Toilets
- Toys
- Trash Cans
- Countertops
- Spills
- Everything!
I even add dish soap to my mop bucket and use it for cleaning my floors.
Bleach for Disinfecting
You might not like bleach, but it’s effective. In fact, my state actually requires it for sanitizing and disinfecting.
First, get a spray bottle and label it for bleach. Second, measure and mix:
1 TBSP bleach + 2 cups water
Use it for disinfecting:
- Tables
- Chairs
- Changing Tables
- Sinks
- Toilets
- Toys
- Trash Cans
- Countertops
- Doorknobs
- Everything!
I haven’t had any trouble with this mixture staining any fabrics. I also use bleach for cleaning the inside of my toilet.
A Few More Tips
Label your bottles and keep them handy, but out of reach of children. For example, mine are on top of my fridge.
I got a couple spray bottles from the dollar store and some from Walmart. I recommend the $1 spray bottle from the Walmart Laundry Aisle. I think it sprays better!
